Introduction to Working With Area Assignments

In order for SpaceMan to "attach" data to spaces, each space must contain an area assignment. The most flexible method (and the one strongly recommended by PlanData) is to connect this data based on a unique combination of building, floor, and room. For this reason, the room number is the most important piece of information when assigning a space.

Another method for attaching occupancy data to spaces is to assign a lease code to each tenant space, however, this is not a recommended method in that updating occupancy information is much less automatic using this method.

Assigning spaces is also important when categorizing space types which is an important element in allocating building common areas and factoring buildings.
